Good news for Mets fans as long as the injury bug stays away from Jose:The Mets have an $11 million option on his 2011 contract. He needs to produce. Reyes said he wants to remain a Met his entire career.
Reyes said he thinks if he stays healthy, the marriage will continue for many years.
"I don't want to go anywhere," he said. "I want to finish my career here.
"Right now, I'm not thinking about contract stuff," Reyes said. "I just want to get on the field and try to do my job and put up good numbers and try to help this team win. That's my goal right now."
This is obviously a huge season for Reyes, who is coming off an injury plagued 2009 season where he missed a majority of the season. If Reyes is healthy and performs at a high level, then there is absolutely no way that the Mets don't pick up the option. Even if Reyes is healthy, but does not produce at his '06-'08 levels, I still think the Mets will pick up his option because his talents are so immense and there is simply no way for the Mets to replace him. Simply put, I see no way that the Mets won't pick up his 2011 option, even at $11 million.

Even though it seems like Reyes has been around forever, he will only be 28 years old after the 2011 season. The Mets need to figure out if Reyes is truly a player that can and will build around for the next decade and invest heavily in. Reyes has tons of potential to land a huge contract with the Mets or any other club moving forward, but he needs to prove himself in 2010 (and in 2011).
