It's October!  Sharon and I are going to take some trips to Halloween events, haunted hotels and abandoned places to celebrate autumn and the scary season.  One of the things that lots of people love to do is to get the crap scared out of them at a haunted house.  Each state has one or two that will have you screaming and running to get out of them.  Those are the best.  We have some here along with scary corn mazes which us crazy gals are going to check out.  We are hoping to get videos of our antics in the corn maze.....muahaha!  Meanwhile here are some of the more famous creepy homes that were in either a movie or TV show.

It has been months since I have done a recap, April to be exact.  My last one was for Destination Truth.  I am back doing recaps and started with the season premiere of Ghost Hunters International.  The team returns with Robb, Barry, Paul, Brandy, and Ashley along with three new investigators; Scott Tepperman from TAPS team in Florida, and from GHA, Susan Slaughter and Karl Pfeiffer.  They start their investigations in Nottingham, England at the Galleries of Justice looking for the spirit of Robin Hood.  This season looks to be a good one for the GHI team will be hunting many famous people from famous international locations.

Hurley Says Goodbye to "Lost"

Seeing vs. Believing

I was checking my DVR list yesterday to see what I had recorded.  I wanted to get caught up on some of my favorite shows that I couldn't watch when they were on.  I forgot that I recorded a show called, "Seeing vs. Believing", on Sunday.  At the time this show recorded I was watching Amazing Race and hoping that the cowboys, Jet and Cord, would be one of the top three teams in the finale, and they were....eeeehaw!

Yesterday, I watched the show which was labeled as a documentary.  The show follows Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake, All My Children) and his friend Jeff travel across America to try and find answers to mysterious phenomena.  Since the death of his father, Ricky who is the believer of the group, is trying to understand his father's life.  Paul Goldin was a world famous hypnotist and psychic and kept a journal of all his fascinations about his findings.  Ricky finds the journal and because he doesn't share his father's gifts, he takes off on his own journey to find answers.  Ricky is joined by his friend, Jeff Gurtman, a hard core skeptic, who is out to prove that there is a logical answer for all the unexplained phenomena.

I'm not sure if this will become a regular show, but I did enjoy watching their findings and seeing Jeff come around on a couple of things.  The two work well together.  I tried to find videos of the entire show but could not.  I'm sure that TLC will air it again, so I will keep my eyes out for it.  Meanwhile I have posted the trailer:

I’m not talking about college basketball, but four TV shows that will be returning in March.

1. GHOST HUNTERS: The TAPS team gets things started on Wednesday, March 3rd on Syfy. TAPS will be celebrating their 100th episode and picked a great place to to investigate, Alcatraz! This 2 hour episode will be hosted by Josh Gates.

2. DESTINATION TRUTH: Speaking of Josh Gates, Destination Truth will be making its return on Wednesday, March 17th on Syfy. I am very excited to see where he takes us and what kind of mysterious creatures will he be looking for. If you are not watching this show, WHY? 3. FLASH FORWARD: This particular week is going to be a good one. Not only is Destination Truth premiering, but Flash Forward also returns. Look for more excitement on Thursday, March 18th on ABC. The promo looks good.  http://abc.go.com/shows/flash-forward

LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!

WANTED: Most Haunted

On occasions I would watch an episode or two of Most Haunted. For a few months now the show seemed to fall off the face of the Earth, erased from existence. If you were to look it up on travelchannel.com, it was nowhere to be seen. It usually follows Ghost Adventures on Fridays but hasn’t been on. Just recently, I saw on a couple of blogs do a post about the show. Rumors are that it was cancelled but sure enough, it appeared on Friday, three weeks ago, following repeats of GA. Perhaps this is the final season?

Last night I finally watched the show, and it’s basically the same as it has always been. We follow this UK investigation team to a most haunted location in different places all over the world. Here is my Reader’s Digest version of the show if you haven’t watched it yet:

The show starts off with Yvette Fielding, the show’s host, walking around the place they will be investigating and giving us the ghostly reported sightings. Just my opinion, but I liked her hair better when it was short and sassy. After Yvette is finished, Leslie Smith, the resident historian, walks around the place and talks about the historical events that happened there. Next we find Yvette talking with Ciaran O’Keeffe, a parapsychologist and skeptic, getting his opinion of what they might expect during the investigation.

Next is the walk around for which Ciaran, Yvette along with a median, walk from room to room to see what kind of vibe the median picks up. Usually they are not aware of the history or haunting of the place. Leslie returns when they are finished to let them know if they got much of the history correct.

The investigation is usually done when it is dark just like most of the other ghost hunting shows. Joining Yvette, Ciaran, Leslie and the median, is Kat Howe and Karl Beattie, Yvette’s husband, and other crew members. They are usually armed with digital cameras, video handhelds, thermal cameras, and recorders. They will place static night vision cameras throughout the place they are investigating. You don’t get the annoying background music and you do get the evidence as it happens. Sometimes they may do a séance if they feel it is necessary. The show wraps up with Ciaran giving his opinion of the personal experiences and evidence that was collected.

This is Most Haunted in a nutshell. Not one of my favorites but mildly entertaining.

I have at least five half done posts on Word and trying to find the time to finish at least one of them. You would think that being unemployed I would have more time to write posts, but that just hasn't been the case.  I have to thank Zak for posting this crazy picture on Twitter and providing me something to share with all of you.  He and Aaron are so goofy.

Next weekend (Feb. 20th), Mike and I are going back to Bisbee and staying at the Copper Queen Hotel along with his sisters and other friends.  I'm hoping that something paranormal happens while we are in the hotel or walking around Bisbee.  I'm also hoping that it will get Mike back in the mood to write. (hint, hint Mikey, lol) I will be posting our adventure after we get back.

The Story of John Locke

John Locke is a fictional character on the ABC television series LOST. He is brilliantly played by Terry O’Quinn, who has an Emmy for his portrayal.

When we first meet Locke, he comes off as very mysterious, intelligent and stoic. He seems to have a liking for hunting and tracking but believes there is a spiritual reason for why everyone is on the island. We start to see Locke displaying more emotions and becoming more moody as time goes on.

John Locke’s early life before the crash wasn’t an easy one. His mother Emily was a teenager when he was born and couldn’t care for him. Locke ended up in many foster homes, where the ageless Richard Alpert visited him and described him as “extremely special”. When he was older and working at a toy store, his mother came to visit. She told him that he was immaculately conceived in which prompt Locke to look for his Dad, Anthony Cooper. Cooper was very inviting and welcomed Locke with open arms. They bond over a hunting trip where Cooper informs Locke that he needs a kidney transplant. Locke donates one of his kidneys but becomes depressed afterward when Cooper refuses to see him.

Years later, Helen (his girlfriend) helps Locke get over what his father did and move on with his life. Unfortunately, Cooper comes back into his life looking for his help and Locke agrees. Helen is unhappy with his decision and leaves. Later, Locke finds out that Cooper killed a man and confronts him about the murder. Cooper ends up pushing Locke out an eight story window on to the sidewalk below. At first it looked like Locke had died but with a touch from the mysterious Jacob, Locke survived. He ended up breaking his back which paralyzed him and put him in a wheelchair. Later, after working for an ignorant boss at a box company, Locke decided to go to Australia for a walkabout. Because of being paralyzed, he was denied admission to the walkabout and so he ended up buying a ticket back home. That ticket was aboard Oceanic Flight 815 which ended up crashing on the mysterious island.

After the plane crashed, Locke was able to regain the use of his legs. This made him more spiritual and believed that the island was the reason for him being able to walk again. He had no intention of leaving the island. During the first season, Locke encounters the island’s monster, and helped find the abducted Claire. While looking for her, he and Boone found a hatch for which they spent many a day and night trying to get opened. He takes Boone under his wing and teaches him the ways of the island. After having a vision of a plane, the two of them go in search of it. They find it and Boone climbs inside where the plane falls severely injuring Boone. A devastated Locke carries Boone back to the caves where he dies. Locke heads back to the latch and furiously tries to open it. After giving up hope, a light shines from the hatch, and Locke sees it as a sign. He gets word from the French Lady, Rousseau, that there is dynamite by a black rock. He argues with Jack but doesn’t listen to him and ends up blowing up the hatch.

In season two, Locke enters the hatch and finds a man down there, Desmond Hume. He explains the hatch, what it was used for, and that a sequence of numbers must be pushed every 108 minutes or else the world will end. Thinking that he has found his replacement, Desmond leaves. These numbers were Hurley’s cursed winning lottery numbers that show up several times in the show. This is when Locke meets Ben Linus and holds him captive in the hatch fearing that he is one of “the others”. Ben messes with Locke’s mind, telling him that everyone thinks he is a joke believing in the buttons ending the world. Ben ends up escaping and while looking for him, Locke and Mr. Eko find the Pearl station. This station proved that the button pushing was just a test so Locke decides to destroy the computer. Desmond returned to the hatch, lets the timer reach zero, turns the fail-safe key and causes the hatch to implode.

In the third season and after the hatch implodes, we find Locke in the jungle walking around and unable to speak. He hooks up with Eko to find the Pearl station where they rewire the circuits to view the surveillance for the hatch. After they leave the station, Locke finds Eko dead in the jungle by the mysterious black monster smoke. He sees a sign on Eko’s stick about going north and finds the Other’s village. He finds out about a submarine, takes Ben hostage to find it and blows it up with some C-4. Jack was planning on using the sub to get off the island but Locke firmly believed that everyone needed to stay because it was their destiny. Ben then shows Locke that they captured his father Cooper and he can be part of the Others if he killed him. Locke not able to do it himself, manipulates Sawyer into doing it and he does. Now that he has earned Ben’s trust, he takes Locke to see Jacob. In Jacob’s cabin was an empty chair that Ben talked to. This angered Locke who feels that Ben lied to him until things started flying around and he hears a voice saying “Help me.” As they walk back to the Others camp, Ben shoots Locke and leaves him for dead. He was afraid of Locke taking over as the leader of the Others. A few days later he wakes up, heads back to where the survivor were camped, and kills Naomi a woman from the freighter he believes is a danger to the island. He asked Jack not to communicate with the freighter, but Jack ignores him. Locke is frustrated and hopes that the other survivors will offer him some support.

Things get even stranger for Locke in the fourth season. With half the survivors believing and following Locke, he heads off to find Jacob for advice. Ben tells Locke that Charles Widmore sent the freighter and wants to take advantage of the island and the powers it seems to hold. Many of those following Locke were killed in an ambush by the group from the freighter. Locke, Ben, and Hurley try again to find Jacob’s cabin using a map Locke found. After they finally found it, Locke goes inside by himself. Inside he finds Christian Shepard (Jack’s Dad) and Claire who disappeared mysteriously. He told Locke that he had to move the island and Ben knew exactly where it needed to be done. After arriving at the Dharma station known as The Orchid, the freighter mercenaries were waiting for Ben. Ben gives himself up in order for Locke to continue his quest. Ben later escapes, finds Locke and announces that he is the new leader of the Others. While Locke joins the Others, Ben finds the large wheel and moves the island.

Many of those trying to get back to the island saw it disappear. Where did it go? In the fifth season we find Locke and any other survivors on the island traveling through time. They figure out that every time there is a bright flash; they end up in a different period of time. Many of the events leading up until this time were seen by Locke and the other survivors. Locke is told by the ever ageless Richard that this is happening because of those who left the island. He also told him that he needed to get them to return but also had to die in the process. Locke finds the statue that Richard told him about leaves the island and finds himself 3 years in the future. He meets up with Charles Widmore who gives him the alias “Jeremy Bentham”. Locke finds all those who left but couldn’t convince any of them to return to the island. Later we find Locke hanging believing that his failure to get Sayid, Hurley, Kate, Jack and Sun to return is why he killed himself. It is later revealed that Ben actually killed him when Locke couldn’t go through with it. Jack is told by Ben that all had to return to the island even Locke’s body. His body was a substitute for Christian Shepard’s body that was on the originally flight. After Jack and the other survivors showed up for another flight that will take them back to the island, this flight also crashes on the island. Only Sun and Locke were in the crash, the others simply disappeared after a bright flash. We find out later that they ended up on the island but 30 years earlier with some of the other Oceanic Flight 815 survivors. For Locke, he appeared to come back from the dead much to Ben’s horror. Richard, Ben, Sun and other survivors follow Locke to the base of a giant statue to confront Jacob. Locke and Ben go inside the chamber alone, meet up with Jacob, where Locke gets Ben to stab him. Jacob realizes that “Locke” is his rival, and at the same time outside the statue, Richard was shown Locke’s body that was found in the plane’s cargo hold.

Tuesday, February 2nd is the season premiere for the final season of LOST. I’m hoping that all will be revealed and they present us with an amazing ending. So, mark your calendars and get LOST with me.

"What can we see in the image? Well, first off Locke is the only one not looking at someone else, once again hinting that he’s important (or in control?). Jack seems to be happy or at least content whilst looking at Locke (will he be on his side next season?). Does Jin and Sun grouped together mean that they will finally be reunited? Frank seems like he knows something is going on, Ben seems very concerned about that and both Miles and Hurley are curious as to what it is. Sawyer seems to be staring at Sayid suspiciously, while Sayid is offering a bowl to Kate – but Kate seems more preoccupied with either Richard and Claire or Ilana, who seems to be looking at Locke. Richard is pouring wine for Claire, making it seem like there’s some sort of relationship or connection there (could it mean that since Claire has been MIA for a full season that Richard considers her one of his people and thus he’s protective of her now?). Are there any other conclusions you’re drawing from this pic?"

2009 Recap: Paranormal Shows

2009 has been a big year for paranormal shows. There have been enough in this genre to feed your paranormal appetite. The most popular is the ghost hunting shows with many of your favorites returning. Also there are some new shows with their own spin on investigating all the ghostly claims.

SYFY seems to lead the pack with the ghost hunting shows. GHOST HUNTERS is still popular and has a large viewing audience. This show is still doing well in the ratings but seems to be lacking something this year. I feel like I’m watching the same episode every week. They still do a great job of debunking but the evidence just isn’t there. I would love to see them experiment with new equipment instead of occasionally. Those head cameras are pretty cool because the let us see what they are seeing at the same time, but they don’t use them enough. Get a full spectrum camera to help see a spirit or shadow clearer and better EVP devices because those ghostly voices are so hard to make out. They just don’t seem like they enjoy ghost hunting anymore.

Another SYFY show that is still popular is GHOST HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL. This show had a weak and rocky start and had troubles getting a good team together. I wasn’t sure what I thought of Robb Demerest as a leader at the beginning but this year he has proven that he is up to the task. Also this year the season ended with the best team they ever had. Let us hope that they can keep them all together and when they return in January they give us some exciting shows to watch. I do love all the international places they investigate.

To me the most improved show is SYFY’s DESTINATION TRUTH. This show had its best season yet. This ratings winner still has another half a season to go next year and this gal is very excited to see where Josh Gates and his team goes. Even though they have investigated haunted places, they also investigate claims of UFO’s and mysterious creatures. I suppose you can say that this show is not a ghost hunting show, but it is so much more. This season we watched as they investigated a haunted forest, an island full of creepy dolls, the ghosts of Chernobyl, the mysteries of King Tut’s Tomb, the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, and followed the team high in the Himalayan mountains to look for a yeti for the second time. Josh continues to entertain us with his witty comments and crazy stunts most people will not even try. Josh and his team do this in the name of getting to the truth.

The Travel Channel’s ghost hunting shows Most Haunted and Ghost Adventures are still being watched in 2009. GHOST ADVENTURES continues to have a big audience even though shows like The Soup love to make fun of them along with some of you. They continue to be locked in known haunted places, taunt the spirits while walk around in complete darkness. They continue to try out new equipment that I’m not sure they know how to use but at least they are trying. Zak continues to be possessed which I have a problem with, and the “dudes” and “bros” are still being constantly said especially when they get excited over something happening. So far this season it seems like many of the ghosts at some of the locations don’t like Nick. I’m still hoping that their EVP’s get clearer so we can hear what the ghosts are saying. Most are so hard to make out. Also in 2009, Ghost Adventures went live on the day before Halloween for 7 straight hours. This was their first time doing this and it seemed to be a ratings winner. I was only able to catch about 3 hours of the special and it looked like they had some success of capturing ghostly evidence.

Other ghost hunting shows of 2009 still continue to entertain the fans that have been loyal and keep on watching. There is A&E’s Paranormal State and Psychic Kids, two shows I have never watched.
This year has seen more ghost hunting shows added to the mix such as Ghost Hunters Academy and Ghost Lab.

GHOST HUNTERS ACADEMY is Steve and Tango taking rookie hunters and putting them through training to possibly becoming a TAPS member. This group of five young kids is brought to places that TAPS has had some of their best investigations and evidence found. I just can’t get behind this show because I find it boring. If I am getting somewhat bored watching Jason and Grant these days, then why would I want to watch these young men and women try to investigate. Even the ghosts are not impressed with the students because they haven’t got any good evidence to get excited over. I probably will not be watching the next season of this show if it continues.

Another new ghost hunting show is the Discovery Channel’s GHOST LAB. Here is a description of the show from dsc.discovery.com: “With the help of the latest technology, two brothers have uncovered some of the most powerful results in supernatural research to date — including a recording of Civil War soldiers talking. Meet Brad and Barry Klinge, Texas natives who in 2007 founded Everyday Paranormal, an investigation team that has explored more than 70 locations and set a new standard in supernatural research with some of the world’s most sophisticated equipment housed in a decked-out traveling "ghost lab." Traveling the country, the 24-foot car hauler can provide 200,000 watts of electricity to power audio-, video- and photo-analysis stations; flat-screen televisions; and an interactive touch-screen smart board. The lab houses surveillance video cameras capable of shooting 300 feet away in total darkness with a 180-degree peripheral view; temperature, humidity and dew point data loggers; various digital cameras, including thermal-imaging cameras; audio recorders; and more than 8,000 feet of video cable. This on-site high-tech lab enables investigators to analyze data on the premises in real time, helping them to more narrowly focus their investigations on known hot spots.” I like this show and will continue to watch.

Not only were there many ghost hunting shows but other paranormal shows are still being watched this year as well. There is History Channel’s, Monster Quest and UFO Hunters; and Biography Channel’s, Celebrity Ghost Stories, Ghostly Encounters and Haunted History.

2009 seems to be the year of the vampires with the buzz over the Twilight, New Moon movie. This year’s second season of True Blood was even better than the first. The fans of the show are called Trubies and I have to admit that I am one. Love those hot blood sucking vampires along with all the other quirky characters that live in Bon Temp, LA. The CW has jumped on the vampire bandwagon this year with its new show The Vampire Diaries. I haven’t watched this show but it seems to follow the Twilight story with teenagers and vampires.

The primetime channels ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX also added their shows in the mix. ABC’s LOST continues to thrill its fans with an explosive (literally) ending to its 5th season this year. We were left to ponder two WTF endings:”If John Locke is in the coffin dead, then who is the Locke that they followed to the statue and promised to get them home?” and “What happened to the people who were stuck in 1978 when the bomb went off?” Can’t wait for February of next year to see how this whole thing is going to play out. ABC added two other shows in hopes that those LOST fans will have something else to get hooked on.

 FLASH FORWARD is one of these shows. It is set in real time meaning that the date given on the show is the actual date on our calendars. Basically the show is about everyone in the world passing out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and having visions of their lives six months into the future. Some people’s visions are good, some are bad and some have no visions at all leaving them to believe that they will be dead before the six months is up. These flash forwards start a frenzy from the FBI trying to figure out why they happened and who did it, to some trying to change the future so the flash forwards won’t come true. There are so many possibilities for this show to succeed or fail, but so far I am hooked and feel it is one to watch. Another ABC show is V based on the 1980’s miniseries and TV show. V stands for “visitors” who are human looking aliens that at first seem to be friendly and helpful. Not everyone is falling for their act and are out to prove what they really are, killers! This group of humans sees that underneath the human skin are lizard-like creatures. Not only are the humans trying to expose them but some of the V rebellions living amongst the humans are on their side as well. I’m still on the fence with this show. The first few shows looked good but I’m not sure where they will go with the story lines. I guess I will have to wait and see if this is one to continue to watch.
CBS has a couple of shows that deal with the paranormal, GHOST WHISPERER about a woman that can see and hear ghosts. She finds out why they are still hanging around, and then helps them to go into the light. Then there is MEDIUM, which is based on Allison Dubois life and her special skills. These shows are still on and being watched by their loyal fans. This summer CBS gave us a thrilling murder/mystery called HARPER’S ISLAND. This 13 week mystery keep you guessing who done it while one by one the guest at a wedding on Harper’s Island were getting picked off. It was a bit slow at the beginning but after the 5th episode it picked up steam, roped you in and never let go. In other words, you were hooked. Mike and I really loved this show and after each episode we tried to guess the murderer. I am happy to say that we did before it was revealed but I’m not telling because if you haven’t seen it, you should.

NBC’s show HEROES is still going strong this year. Even though I chose not to continue to watch it, they still have a large fan base that is still watching. I really liked the first season, but sometime after that, the storylines were flip flopping back and forth which caused me to lose interest. And then there is FOX’s FRINGE, a show I haven’t seen at all. Apparently there is lots of people watch because it is still on this year. 2009 was a great year for those of us that love to watch the paranormal shows. Here’s hoping that 2010 continues to bring us our favorite shows and enlighten us with some new thrilling shows. I am hoping that the ghost hunters use better equipment and thrill us with amazing evidence. I am hoping for more murder/mysteries like Harper’s Island and that they bring us more original themed shows like LOST and not the same old crap.

In A Ghost Hunters Funk

The past few weeks I have been in a Ghost Hunters funk.  My recaps have been short and I feel that I'm repeating the same old words.  I didn't even post a recap this week but can give you the Readers Digest version of what happened:

The first investigation was at the American Legion in Pennsylvania.  While setting up, Amy had a light turn on by itself.  It could be an electrical short or it is a ghost messing with her.  She also saw a shadow move by a window. Throughout the investigation they saw a shadow figure, heard strange noises and unseen footsteps.  The evidence they caught was on their video camera in the bar area; a bang followed by a faint voice.  Also, on a video camera sitting on a table and shooting through a doorway, they caught a shadow figure quickly dash by the window in the background.

The second investigation was in Harford, Connecticut at the Old State House.  They heard strange noises during the investigation but that was just about it.  The evidence they caught was the sound of a door handle moving and a door opening.  Also, in the museum on their recorder, they caught what sounded like a woman sighing.

Next week is the season finale.  They are investigating the crash site of the Hindenburg in Lakehurst, New Jersey.  I will be doing a full recap on this episode.  The previews look promising but they always do.  Let us hope for a good ending to the season.
