CC The Grizzly

Yankee Humor
Got this article an email from Tom over at Serious Sports News Network He wanted me to pass it along to you guys. Hilarious.

Here is the beginning...click the headline below to jump to the whole article.

Yankees Assign Mark Teixeira To Wake Up CC From Hibernation/SSNN:
With spring training just around the corner, the New York Yankees are beginning their final preparations for the season. This year, that includes the daunting task of waking up pitcher CC Sabathia from his three-month hibernation.
“Yeah, someone’s gotta go up there and rustle CC,” said manager Joe Girardi. “Not fun.”
In late October, Sabathia consumed approximately 200,000 calories woth of food, which is four times his normal daily intake. Then, he went to the Catskill mountains in upstate New York, where he found a suitable cave for his three-month slumber.
He stripped naked, curled into a fetal position, and went into a trance-like sleep that would allow him to wake up refreshed and ready for the season, and have the added benefit of allowing him to survive the cold winter, where food is scarce and harder to come by. This is the first year that the Yankees have had to wake up Sabathia from his annual hibernation.

“It’s not fun, from what I understand,” said Derek Jeter, who heard about the challenge from Sabathia’s former Cleveland Indians teammate Grady Sizemore. “Wait, unless, do you like waking up a raging 300-lb ginormous mammal? No? Okay, then, yeah, it’s not fun.

He may be a giant mammal, but he's our giant mammal!!!

Vote For Baseball's Oddest Play Of The Year!

Yankee Humor
This is absolutly hilarious, a must see.

It is a collection of videos of the oddest plays of 2008 in Major League Baseball and you can vote for your favorite.

Of course you should vote for Johnny Damon's infamous "ball stalled on the wall" injury play, but some of the other videos are pretty funny.

Some of the other highlights:
  • Indian's Victor Martinez "kicking the bucket".
  • Pirate's catcher Ryan Doumit "gunning down the pitcher".
  • And "agressive fan" nosedives into Ranger's ball girl.

Are The Yankees Racist?

Yankee Humor
Apparently, at least a couple people believe they are.

I came across this article this morning, and had to at least say something about it.  Apparently, writers at BlackAthlete.net seem to believe that the Yankees have acted with racism, not sound baseball judgement, in releasing both LaTroy Hawkins and Bobby Meacham this season.

Wow.  This is so far fetched I don't know whether it is a joke or if these people are actually serious.  I am pretty sure it is just a joke, but I have heard crazier conspiracy theories from people.

But please, let me tell you that the Yankees didn't fire Meacham and cut LaTroy Hawkins because they were African-Americans.  They got rid of them because they didn't exactly excel at their respective posts.

BlackAthlete.net:
They had made sure there were NO African Americans on their Roster (sorry Jeter you don't count). Still somehow the Yankees have gone home for the Winter. For the 8th season in a row WITHOUT winning the World Series.

It had to be something else. WELL PRAISE THE LORD. They found it. How could they have missed it. Believe it or not the New York Yankees had a BLACK Third Base coach the entire 2008 season. WHY didn't anyone notice ??

Why look any further?

Maybe you can fool those Steinbrenner Boys once in a while but never ever twice. The Yankees axed their only African American player relief pitcher LeTroy Hawkins during the season but somehow they missed Bobby Meacham standing right there near Third Base every time the Yankees batted all season long.

Problem solved. Meacham got the boot on Tuesday from the Yankees after just one year on the team as the third base Coach. After watching hours and hours of game films the Steinbrenner boys along with GM Brian Cashman documented the fact that Meacham "spooked" Yankee batters by his presence only 90 feet away. Further, that Yankee runners avoided making it to third base whenever possible because they "feared" having to be so close to Bobby Meacham if they did.

I mean. They do have a point, there isn't really too many African-Americans in the system. But to suggest that the Yankees are doing it on purpose is ridiculous.

AMI Mourn's Loss Of Giambi Lip Fur

Yankee Humor

It lived a life most of us would envy. But in the end, Jason Giambi’s mustache never really had a chance, and ended up in a bathroom basin, dead after less than a few months of life.

The American Mustache Institute salutes Mr. Giambi and his mustache, for having the bravery to walk proudly down the same lines upon which other great Yankee mustaches have — including Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Don Mattingly, and Sal Fasano. Our hearts and prayers go out to Mr. Giambi, his family, and the Yankees organization. And while we are all gravely disappointed by the passing of Jason’s mustache, no one, or thing, feels a greater loss than his upper lip. The thick coating of fur had become a part of that lip - like peanut butter and jelly - and we can only hope Giambi’s late lip sweater is in a better place.

It is important during this time of mourning that we all reflect and understand that every time a mustache is shaved, an angel in heaven dies and falls to earth. And the American Mustache Institute has established a fund in memory of Mr. Giambi’s mustache that will be used to educate young people about the merits of facial hair, circus clowns, and juggling.

In the end, while the hearts of mustached-Americans everywhere are broken, we must always remind ourselves that a mustache is a terrible thing to shave.

We look forward to a newly erected monument in the new Yankee Stadium commemorating Giambi’s mustache alongside Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio.

Yankees Bury Bernie Under Stadium For Good Luck

Yankee Humor
From The Onion, hat tip to Peter Abraham:

Citing a need for physical and spiritual cleansing after a Boston Red Sox fan entombed a David Ortiz jersey in the floor of the new facility, the New York Yankees buried former centerfielder Bernie Williams under 4,650 pounds of concrete Wednesday in the foundation of the new Yankee Stadium for good luck.

According to team sources, the instant the 39-year-old Williams was completely submerged in the rapidly setting structural material, stopping his voice as his lungs and mouth filled with concrete, the sun broke through the clouds and shone on the yet-incomplete field. Yankees part-owner Hank Steinbrenner called the occurrence a sign indicating that the "Curse Of A Red Sox Fan's David Ortiz Jersey" had been reversed, and that God was once again on the Yankees' side.

Hughes Distracted By Upcoming Office Episode

Yankee Humor
Phil Hughes had a rather rough outing against the Royals on Tuesday-- going just three innings and allowing six hits, and 3 earned runs.

But fear not Yankee fans. As it turns out, Phil was just too pumped up for the new Office episode that is set to air on NBC Thursday night and was just having trouble locating his stuff.

Check out this post on the Phil Hughes Weblog:
"The Office is back next Thursday! So excited. I’ve heard about 10 different rumors about what the first episode is going to be about. The anticipiation is killing me."
As you can see, the "anticipation was killing him" and I am pretty sure that he was just focusing on Micheal and Dwight instead of Curveball and Changeup.

Once the novelty of the new episodes of The Office wears off, Phil Franchise will be back.

You can count on that Yankee fans.

Fenway Park Is Dangerous To Children

Yankee Humor
Since brainwashing the nation's youngest baseball fans into becoming Red Sux fan's wasn't enough to deem Fenway Park as dangerous to children, check out this hair-raising story and make your own decision about that place.
A 13-year-old girl touring Fenway Park on a school trip was attacked by a resident red-tailed hawk that drew blood from her scalp Thursday. She wasn't seriously hurt, but some observers saw an omen for a certain New York Yankees slugger in the attack at the home of the Boston Red Sox. The girl's name is Alexa Rodriguez.
Really? You saw an omen in a girl getting attacked by a bird protecting its egg? I don't care if her name was Alexa Rodriguez...that's pretty stupid Red Sux Nation.

Yankee Girl(s)

Yankee Humor
Well, the Yankees lost last night to the Blue Jays-- and I am none to happy about it. But it is a very long season, so I figure I can get over it.

Here is a picture from MLB.Com's Women's Shop that kinda cheered me up so I'd figure I'd share it with everyone else in the hope of it doing the same for you.

Game 3 tonight at 7:05 against the Jay's. Catch it on YES or however else you get your Yankee fix.

Go Yanks!!!

P.S.- Would someone please drop me a comment and let me know if this is one girl in two different pictures or two girls in the same. I honestly can't tell. Maybe they are twins? Hmm.

Okay it's not really an exclusive but Hideki Matsui was married in New York city recently.

However, I am pretty sure his bride is either in the witness protection program or she is imaginary. I can't really decide which.

Billy Gets "The Call"

Yankee Humor

billy-crystal_pageBilly Crystal will get to “look mahvelous” in pinstripes.

The actor will sign a one-day, minor league contract with the New York Yankees and play in Thursday’s exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Crystal, an avid Yankees fan, will work out with the team on Wednesday and will wear uniform No. 60 for the game—to be played one day before his 60th birthday. The Yankees said Monday they have the approval of baseball commissioner Bud Selig.

“I’ve been waiting 50 years for this call,” Crystal said in a statement released by the team. “I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of the Yankees and commissioner Selig. I know this’ll be tougher than the Broadway Softball League, but I’m looking forward to helping the younger players, which by the way is all of them. Oops, I have to go, Scott Boras is on the phone.”

Crystal, according to the Yankees hit .348 and was captain during his senior year at Long Beach High School in New York. He directed and produced “61*,” a move about Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle and the 1961 Yankees.

“The Yankees are excited to welcome the newest member of our team known for his humor and wit as well as his undying love for the Yankees,” chief operating officer Lonn Trost said.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, after Monday night’s 4-0 win over Cincinnati, said he hasn’t determined what position Crystal will play.

“That remains to be seen,” Girardi said. “Obviously, it’s kind of exciting. Billy Crystal has done a lot for this organization. He’s always been a big part of it. Our way of rewarding him, saying thanks for everything that you’ve done.”

From the looks of that picture I would say The Captain has some competition!!!  Good for Billy!
