The Yankees may already be in the market for another 35 year old pitcher (YAY, haha NOT!!!!!!).
Derek Lowe, who is now in the final season of a four-year, $36 million contract he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 2004 season, Lowe will be a free agent again in the fall. While there are already indications that the New York Yankees will be among Lowe’s suitors during the offseason, the pitcher will have a most obvious strength when it comes time to sit at the bargaining table: Durability.
The possessor of a 2-1 record and 2.88 ERA through six starts this season, Lowe owns a career mark of 114-97 with a 3.80 ERA as he approaches his 35th birthday next month. Since becoming a full-time starter again in 2002, Lowe has won 92 games over the past six full seasons, an average of slightly more than 15 wins a year.
Most important of all, he continues to take the ball.
